Zhytomyr Region is the most militarized region of Ukraine.
In terms of the number of combat veterans, the region ranks third in Ukraine. In Zhytomyr alone, there are 7,215 combat veterans, including 2,017 persons with disabilities. It is projected that up to 70,000 residents of Zhytomyr Region will require rehabilitation services, yet there is currently no specialized rehabilitation center available to meet this demand.
The implementation of this project will improve quality of life, promote the social integration of military personnel and veterans, provide comprehensive physical and psychological rehabilitation, and support their return to civilian life.
In June 2024, the Italian architectural firm PIUARCH developed a concept design for a rehabilitation center in Zhytomyr.

The center will include:
The total building area will be 12,649 sq. m.
The project site consists of a 2-hectare municipally owned land plot designated for development, located within a recreational zone on the banks of the Teteriv River. The surrounding recreational area covers a total of 56.1 hectares.
