Ukraine occupies one of the first places on the European continent in terms of cancer incidence. Zhytomyr region was the most affected by the Chernobyl disaster, so the incidence rate of malignant neoplasms in the region exceeds the national rate and is one of the highest in Ukraine. More than 4,000 new cases of cancer are detected every year. The share of morbidity among residents of the Zhytomyr urban community in the structure of regional morbidity is 26%. In men, as in women, the localization of tumors in the digestive organs, genital organs, and skin neoplasms prevails. The disease becomes more widespread among representatives of both sexes after the age of 40 and progresses with increasing age. Neoplasms in the structure of the causes of total mortality of the population of the urban community occupy the 2nd place (17% of the total mortality).
Given the data on the incidence and mortality of the population from oncological diseases, the tendency to increase these indicators, the creation of a modern treatment center, where the use of innovative technologies for adequate diagnosis and modern types of treatment. This will contribute to increasing the availability of highly specialized medical care, survival rate and quality of life. Patients on site will be able to receive fast and effective treatment. It will not be necessary to go to other regions or abroad. Modern equipment plays an important role in the fight against cancer.
The center is planned to be equipped with high-tech equipment: a linear accelerator, magnetic resonance and computer tomography. The presence of a linear accelerator in the modern center, which is planned to be built, will allow specialists to apply modern treatment methods. Doctors will be able to conduct and control the process of irradiating tumors with much greater precision, use higher doses of radiation, and at the same time minimize the impact on surrounding healthy tissue.
