In Zhytomyr a school was selected as a winner within the framework of the project “TUMI: Get to School Sustainably”. Within the project, a school yard will be rebuilt according to the guidelines of sustainable mobility.
Four general educational institutions of the Zhytomyr city amalgamated community participated in the project (Veresy school, school No.8, school No.36, Zhytomyr Ecological Lyceum No.24).
Over the past two months, mobility committees were established at schools within the framework of the project “TUMI: Get to School Sustainably”. The committees consisted of pupils, parents and teachers. They investigated the surrounding school area, identified routes that pupils use, carried out walking audits, took photos and videos and detected the most dangerous places for movement around their schools.
The judging panel selected Zhytomyr Ecological Lyceum No.24 as a winner. The lyceum will get additional financial support within the framework of the project “TUMI: Get to School Sustainably” to implement infrastructure measures in their school yard according to the guidelines of sustainable mobility and the developed concept of school mobility.
Financial support in the amount of almost EUR 150 thousand is provided by the German Corporation for International Cooperation GmbH (GIZ) to implement the project “TUMI: Get to School Sustainably”.
The project is aimed at the development and improvement of school mobility. Children are the most vulnerable road users; and their way to school and back home is not always safe and comfortable. One of the main objectives of the project “TUMI: Get to School Sustainably” is to provide road users with safe movement around the educational establishments of Zhytomyr city amalgamated community.
