ZHYTOMYR AIRPORT BECAME INTERNATIONAL 01.07.2021

An international crossing point will be opened at Zhytomyr Airport for cargo and passenger air services. Further on, international scheduled and charter flights are planned to be performed.

The relevant Ordinance was adopted by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine at a meeting on June 30, 2021.

According to the explanatory note to the government ordinance, its implementation will have a positive impact on regional development and will help meet the needs of the population and business entities in direct domestic and international air transportation.

Currently, the airport runway needs to be reconstructed to launch flights. The tender for the reconstruction of the airfield complex with an expected cost of almost UAH 500 million was announced on June 18. According to the terms of reference, the project envisages, amongst other things, reinforcement of the existing asphaltic concrete cover of the runway and runway extension to 2500 m, works on water disposal and installation of external electric lighting. Reconstruction of the airfield complex in Zhytomyr is expected to begin in the autumn.

On 28 June, the Common Aviation Area Agreement between the EU and Ukraine got the green light from the EU Council. The signing of the Agreement is scheduled for the autumn, after which the agreement will be temporarily applied until the ratification is completed.
