A working meeting was held in Zhytomyr with representatives of the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Ukraine. The meeting discussed the implementation of projects funded by the EIB as part of programs to restore the infrastructure of Ukrainian cities affected by the war.
Zhytomyr is one of the participants in EIB programs aimed at modernizing urban infrastructure. Several large-scale projects are already being actively implemented in the city:
– Reconstruction of the surgical building and emergency department of Hospital No. 2
– Construction of a new sewer pressure line for the city water utility
During the meeting, representatives of the EIB and UNDP familiarized themselves with the current status of these projects and discussed the prospects for their completion.
“The reconstruction of the operating room at Hospital #2 is 50% complete. A modern ventilation system has already been installed, all dismantling work has been completed; medical gases have been supplied to the necessary rooms, and finishing work has begun,” said Volodymyr Malyk, deputy director of the medical facility.
In addition, after the main construction works are completed, it is planned to purchase surgical tables, operating lights and other necessary equipment.
The reconstruction of the operating room is aimed at equipping the hospital with modern technologies, which will improve the quality of medical services and provide comfortable conditions for medical staff. This will also significantly improve surgical care for patients, particularly in the context of the growing need for medical services due to the war.
“Zhytomyr’s cooperation with the European Investment Bank is an important step in the city’s recovery from the challenges caused by the war. Thanks to financial support and international experience, Zhytomyr will be able to develop its infrastructure, modernize key facilities and provide quality services to its residents,” says Galyna Shymanska, Secretary of the City Council.
